Dear Spammers or Malware Idiots

Thank you for your ceaseless attempts to spam my blog and/or seed it with links to malicious code. I have no other option but to only allow comments from registered users. Please die immediately.

T0 the rest of you - sorry. I really do enjoy your comments. Unfortunately, a handful of cretins (no offense to those from Crete) have decided it is a good idea to post links to who knows what in other people's blogs. So if you want to comment, you'll have to register, or just send me an email. Thank you.

I Love Music!

Yeah, no kidding you love music. Who doesn't love music? Do you think that makes you special?

And while we're on it, do you love food, too? Wow, that's so crazy. Because I love food. We have so much in common.

Why don't you tell me something that isn't the equivalent of telling me exactly nothing.

Disappointed by Fruit

To paraphrase Jerry Seinfeld, fruit is a gamble - I know that going in!

Lately, however, it seems that "super" market bought fruit is nothing of a gamble. It's all lousy. If it is a gamble, you've got better odds playing the lottery.

I mean, it's the summer. Peaches, nectarines and plums should all be plump, juicy and sweet. Instead I get mealy, dry, and bland. Berries should be bursting with flavor, but all I get are tart lumps of nastiness. Grapes are so-so at best. Don't even get me started on tomatoes - they all taste like cardboard (I'll assume the sophisticated audience that reads this blog already knows that they're fruits).

I suppose there are bright spots. Bananas are consistently "pretty good" and mangoes are always great if you leave them to ripen long enough.

The problem, though, is that most modern food is bred for shipping durability and shelf life. Look, I've got nothing against bio-engineering of super fruits, but one shouldn't have to sacrifice flavor to get durability. If that happens, go back to the drawing board. The mad scientists that work for Del Monte, Dole, etc. should be able to crack this. It's the 21st Century for crying out loud.

I'm not ready to go all organic just yet, but I will admit I am willing to pay more for tastier food. I won't buy it because it's "healthier" or any other BS, but taste is taste. I can't argue with those wild strawberries I had last week from the farmers market.

A Sign?

I generally try to keep my politics out of this blog, but I found this article interesting in light of current events.

To find the manuscript open to Pslam 83 seems pretty close to being some kind of sign, or at least a timely reminder. To quote from v. 4, "They say, 'Come, let us wipe them out as a nation; let the name of Israel be remembered no more!'" Some things never change...

Thanks to Patrick for bringing this to my attention.

Old Glory Robot Insurance

A classic skit from SNL that I quote from frequently:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovd72CPK6us

"And when they grab you with those metals claws you can't break free because they're made of metal... and robots are strong."
